ePedigree Connector Software released by Primary Marking Systems, Inc.
July 15, 2008, Saint Louis, Missouri
Primary Marking Systems, Inc. announced today the release of "ePedigree Connector" serialization software, which, if used for pharmaceuticals, is the first step towards compliance with California's drug pedigree regulations. The ePedigree Connector is an easy to use tool designed for tracking of RFID/2D barcode labeled units, cases and pallets as well as automatic label printing and application, including RFID/2D barcode labels.
The software is available through SaaS (Software as a Service) or Software Ownership models. ePedigree Connector's touch screen capabilities and intuitive menus allow for easy reprinting of missing, bad, non-readable labels with minimal employee training. ePedigree Connector can be modified to interface with existing production systems for data retrieval and reporting, or be used as a stand-alone system. Handheld mobile computers can be employed to identify damaged RFID/2D tags, and to allow reprinting. Production run and shipment transaction reporting using ePedigree Connector helps track production and shipment status, along with other important information. The system can be easily intergraded into any EPC compliant ePedigree system, such as RfXcel's "Active ePedigree Management".
The California State Board of Pharmacy has delayed the implementation date of the state's electronic pedigree laws from January 1, 2009, to January 1, 2011. "The board concurs that the additional two years to January 1, 2011, is, in the language of Business and Professions Code section 4163.5, 'require[d]' in order to effectively implement electronic technologies to track the distribution of dangerous drugs within the state," wrote William Powers, president, California State Board of Pharmacy, in a March 25 statement. Companies cannot slow down their programs. "The additional time will simply allow for greater development and refinement of existing technical standards and greater maturity of technologies. It will also allow some time for the board to continue its partnership work with FDA on the development of federal unique identifier standards." With the release of the "ePedigree Connector" serialization software, Primary Marking Systems now provides a complete solution for ePedigree compliance, including the hardware, and services needed to comply with the California law.
While the California ePedigree requirements and implementation for serializing pharmaceuticals have been pushed back to January 1, 2011 many manufactures are moving forward. "We have seen an increased interest and desire for manufactures to move forward with their RFID or 2D bar code serialization plans. Manufactures are looking to take advantage of the economic stimulus tax breaks for 2008 as well as an increased understanding of the time frame it takes to implement a working solution." Tim McIntyre, Vice President of Sales at Primary Marking Systems, Inc.
Recently, a Gaant graph, which shows the time it takes a company to implement a completed solution from inception, was run for a pharmaceutical company on the East coast with 10 production lines. "The company was shocked to learn that the project would take approximately ten months and require the full time manpower of four employees using 2D bar codes, not RFID, and very limited additional packaging or labeling equipment" said Tim McIntyre "Our serialization software for pharmaceutical manufactures, 'ePedigree Connector', has been their answer."
ePedigree Connector is highly regarded in the industry as the alternative solution to the high priced, hard to understand serialization software currently sold for the SMB market. ePedigree Connector can be adapted to any warehouse management system. Some users prefer to put a complete line with RFID print and apply applicators, readers, and reject stations. Other small businesses find the 'slap and ship' method is the most cost effective solution.
The serialization solution is now available and includes the following:
• "ePedigree Connector" serialization software
• Custom ERP/WMS software integration
• RFID/2D printers/applicators
• Motorola or Intermec handheld computers
• RFID labels
• RFID interrogators and antennas
• User training
The system can be deployed in as little as 3-4 weeks allowing pharmaceutical companies ample time to implement and learn the system to meet the California deadline. The system will also give the access to real time and historical data throughout the production cycle and storage.
